Nobody Ever Taught Me

by K-Drama

about

Father's Day is an annual tradition many men in America struggle with due to the absence of their Dad in the home. This track is an ode to validating those emotions while encouraging the listener that God is a Father to the fatherless.

lyrics

Nobody ever taught me how to change a tire
How to use a monkey wrench, or a pair of pliers
Nobody ever taught me how to change oil
I didn’t learn a lot of things, ended up spoiled
Many skills they don’t teach in school
My Daddy wasn’t around, so I felt like a fool
He was roaming the streets, he was breaking the rules
So nobody ever taught me, how to use tools
Nobody ever taught me how to work in the yard
It’s really sad that things are the way that they are
It wasn’t like my daddy didn’t know, he decided not to show me
I use to bitter, that’s the old me
I didn’t realize back then, feel it in the long run
I’m ignorant or my choices are wrong ones
And now I understand
nobody taught me how to be a man

Nobody taught me how to treat a woman
My judgment was cloudy, did things that I shouldn’t have
I wish my dad would’ve taught me as I was looking
to imagine having a daughter of my own but I couldn’t have
Nobody ever taught me how to tie a tie
home coming, prom night, how I make it by?
I didn’t know how to iron my clothes
I knew how to wash em, but didn’t know how to fold
Nobody ever taught me how to shave
many days I looked like a man who lived in a cave
Man I feel stupid sometimes
I’m so clueless at times
I didn’t see it back then, but I feel it in the long run
I’m ignorant or my choices are wrong ones
And now I understand
nobody taught me how to be a man

Nobody ever taught me how to grill
Only know how to cook a few things to keep it real
Nobody ever taught me how much money I should save
The Bibles says whoever I’m indebted to, I’m a slave
I just don’t get it
Fatherlessness is so wicked
God’s grace is sufficient
Anything that’s broke, He can fix it
You don’t have to be the deadbeat that your daddy was
Though He didn’t teach you, you can still be manly cause
God will be the dad you never had
And all the skills that you lack, He got it in the bag
He’ll send people in your life for your development
Making you a strong, patient man who’s intelligent
I hope you understand
That God made me a man
